St Mirren FC Charitable Foundation has teamed up with Circle and Scottish Recovery Consortium for the Recovery Walk promotion events as the walk is held in Paisley this year.
Recovery Walk Scotland will be taking place in Paisley this year on September 24, as the annual event aims to celebrate people’s recovery from mental health to addictions and they are teaming up with St Mirren FC Charitable Foundation to help spread awareness about the services that can help people.

Speaking about teaming up with the charities for the event, Gayle Brannigan who is the chief executive of the St Mirren’ charitable foundation, highlighted how important the events were for raising awareness for people:
“The event is essential for highlighting the services. We are partnering with the Scottish Recovery Consortium and Circle on promotional events that are starting in the stadium on the Sunday, August 14.
“The open day event will be great as there will be live music, entertainment and all the fun stuff that will make it exciting for the families, but more importantly there will be a lot of information points and stalls with various organisations that will help members of the public should they wish to seek it.
The recovery walk is very important to all those who are taking part as it is an event that helps honour people that some may have lost, as well to acknowledge that recovery is possible and important. The event will also help provide a networking ground for people attending, allowing them to speak to others that are in the same situation as them and show people that it is not just them going through these hurdles.
As the St Mirren FC Charitable Foundation offers help to Circle and the SRC, Gayle points out the importance of event to Paisley, as well as how the Paisley club can play a huge role in helping others too with many people in the area connecting with St Mirren and see the stadium as a “cathedral”:
“It is very important as Paisley has a huge population. I have a responsibility in my role due to so many members of the community looking at the club and the foundation for support and specific services.
“We know that the lifestyle choices are round about attending sporting events, so I think for us it is socially responsible to partner up with local organisations and do the best we can to raise awareness.
“We do know that football clubs are a powerful engagement for people and in lots of circumstances people are willing to walk into a stadium should they need that in some way. For lots of people, football clubs have become a cathedral for the people.”
