St Cuthbert Wanderers' return to action delayed by burst pipes

Burst pipes delayed St Cuthbert Wanderers’ return to action on Saturday.

The Kirkcudbright side were due to host Lochmaben at St Mary’s Park for their first competitive game since December 3.

However, they are one of a number of South of Scotland League clubs to suffer burst pipes after last month’s cold snap, meaning the changing rooms couldn’t be used.

Boss Josh Gardner said: “It’s quite unfortunate and I think it’s happened to a few clubs.

“We tried to find other alternatives but we couldn’t get another facility.

“We had to cancel which wasn’t ideal as it’s now five weeks since we last played a match. We’re going to try to get a friendly arranged this week to get some game time.

“They players have been doing their home training plans. There was a bad flu going around the team so there wasn’t much sense bringing them in face-to-face.

“We were in last Wednesday and the boys looked pretty good, I was pretty impressed with the condition they came back in.

“We just need to get games into their legs now.”

Saints have extended the loan deals of Queen of the South pair Konar Pietsch and Cammy Shaw until the end of the season, with fellow Palmerston youngster Kane Paton also set to stay in Kirkcudbright for the rest of the campaign.

And former Bellshill Athletic defender Nico Maclachlan is set to join ahead of this week’s game against Mid Annandale, which will be played at Galabank.

Gardner said: “I think Mids have the same as us with burst pipes and I think Lochmaben have had an issue as well.

“We’ve managed to get Galabank, we couldn’t use it on Saturday as Annan were at home.

“It’ll be good to get a competitive game in the league in.

“It seems to be 3G only falls victim to the frost but I don’t think the temperature is to be that bad so I’m looking forward to a game finally being on.”
