Almost 18 full years since the last all-new Spyro the Dragon game, everyone's favorite purple dragon is back with Spyro: A Realm Beyond, launching early next year.
Announced during today's Xbox Games Showcase, Spyro: A Realm Beyond is an all-new Spyro adventure from Toys for Bob. While we got the Reignited Trilogy in 2018, the last totally new game we got was 2008's The Legend of Spyro: The Dawn of the Dragon, so to say it's been a while would be an understatement. You can check out the trailer below.
As for what we can expect from A Realm Beyond, the trailer's video description reveals that Spyro finds himself stranded (presumably, in a realm beyond), but soon finds himself taking on "a vicious invading force known as the Scavs." It's called "Spyro's boldest evolution yet," which sounds very promising.
Rumors of a new Spyro game have been circulating for some time now – in 2024, it was rumored that Toys for Bob had signed a deal with Microsoft, shortly after splitting away from Activision. It didn't take long for these rumors to be confirmed – a couple of months later, Toys for Bob announced that it was "partnering with Xbox to publish our next new game," which was "still very early in development" at the time.
The studio didn't confirm what game it was working on, though given that the announcement was accompanied by the Toys for Bob and Xbox logos on a purple background, many fans were hopeful that Spyro was set to return. Now then, here we are – A Realm Beyond is set to launch in spring 2027 on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Switch 2, and PC.
