A strong letter of objection from Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has played its part in delaying Haringey Council's redevelopment proposals in the area.
The council was set to vote on Thursday over whether to approve a major regeneration scheme to build up to 2,929 new homes in a new High Road West development, opposite the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, after some late objections, including the comprehensive, three-page letter from Levy, which was sent the day before the meeting, the council's planning officers changed their recommendation from approval to a deferral of the decision in order to give proper consideration to the objections made.
The council members duly voted to defer discussions over the proposal from developers Lendlease until their meeting in June. Levy's detailed letter, which can be found here, makes it very clear that the club believes the proposals for the scheme are not fit for purpose, including an 'unforgivable' lack of jobs created in the area.
