Sprightly Lanarkshire seniors' club enjoy tea dance get together

Members of a sprightly seniors club based at Newmains Community Trust enjoyed an lively get together recently.

SWELS (Seniors with Energetic Lifestyles) held an afternoon tea dance at the NCT Centre on Manse Road on Tuesday, October 4.

The group’s secretary Tom Murray said: “A great time was had by all and we are now all looking forward to our Christmas Lunch which will be on Tuesday, December 6.”

The tea dance was in addition to the group’s normal activities and they are always looking to extend a warm welcome to anyone who wishes to come along and make new friends.

SWELS meet in the NCT Centre on Mondays at 2pm for Chair Aerobics, and also every Thursday at 2pm for Tai Chi. The group numbers around 50 members and they welcome anyone along who lives in the area.

“Even though we’re a seniors group there are a few younger ones too in their forties and fifties,” Tom added.

“You don’t need to be an old age pensioner. We’re always looking for more people to join us at Tai Chai and chair aerobics.

"We have members from Wishaw, Shotts, Allanton, and from Motherwell.
