Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim plays down Chelsea links

Ruben Amorim refused to be drawn on speculation linking with him the Chelsea job in the future.

The Sporting Lisbon manager was considered by the club’s Boehly-Clearlake Capital ownership following their decision to ruthlessly sack Thomas Tuchel on Wednesday.

Mauricio Pochettino was another discussed after his departure from Paris Saint-Germain earlier this year.

While Graham Potter has since been appointed as Tuchel’s replacement and has signed a long-term contract, Amorim could perhaps be seen as an option in the years to come.

Having led Sporting to their first League title in 19 years two seasons ago, the 37-year-old is held in high regard across coaching circles.

Speaking of the Chelsea links, Amorim told O Jogo: “The project I am in is the project I want.

“I have another year and a half of contract; Chelsea have presented a coach for the next five years.

“I am happy here and I am not thinking about another project.”
