A secret part of the new Spider-Man film might have accidentally been spoiled by one of the movie’s musicians.
During a red carpet interview at Monday’s Los Angeles premiere of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, singer Steve Lacy — whose song “oh yeah?” is featured in the film — was asked which character was his favorite in the fourth installment of the superhero franchise.
“Out of all of the characters in the film you’re aware of and, without spoiling anything, who is your favorite? Or who are you most excited to see?” the interviewer asked Lacy, 28, on the carpet.
Lacy took a second to think before responding.

“You know what? Jean,” Lacy answered. “I like Jean. She’s the villain but there’s a reason to her madness.”
The reporter, who looked stunned, asked him, “Is that a spoiler?” but the “Bad Habit” singer did not respond to the question.
It did not take long for fans to latch on to Steve’s admission and take it as confirmation that franchise newcomer Sadie Sink is playing X-Men’s telekinetic mutant Jean Grey in the movie — and that she will be revealed as a villain.
Speculation over Sink’s role in the fourth Spider-Man film has been rampant after her casting was first reported in March 2025, but her character’s name had been kept under wraps as Marvel did not release any official information about the Stranger Things star’s part in the iconic franchise.
Now, fans are stunned that Lacy appeared to reveal the big secret so casually after years of Sink, 24, holding it in.
“The way Sadie has been dodging spoilers all press tour only for Steve Lacy to drop it like it’s nothing… girl is in the trenches rn,” one person wrote on X. Another added, “Bro just needed one interview to destroy everything.”
Another said that “he can’t be serious,” with one person adding: “It was funny but I'm genuinely dumbfounded by how stupid he is. Slipping up a spoiler happens all the time sure, but if you see the clip of this guy Steve Lacy that is not normal.”
However, some fans are still optimistic that Lacy might have been referring to Lisa Colón-Zayas’s character, who was previously reported to be Captain Jean DeWolff, a NYPD detective.
A representative for Lacy did not immediately return The Independent’s request for comment.
Brand New Day, which comes out July 31, picks up where Spider-Man: No Way Home left off nearly five years ago, with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker dealing with the aftermath of a spell that made the entire world — including his best friends, played by Zendaya and Jacob Batalon — forget his existence.
