Members of the iconic 90s band the Spice Girls are set to reunite to sing at King Charles III royal coronation, a source has revealed.
The formal event will see His Majesty officially inducted in his new royal role as King in a three day celebration from May 6 to 8 - an important occasion which could see the legendary girl group reform of a one off performance as royal organisers try to secure the act.
If confirmed, it will be the first time in over 10 years since members, Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Mel Chisholm, Gerry Halliwell and Emma Bunton take stage as a full group - last joining forces to sing at the 2012 Olympics closing ceremony in London.
An insider told the Scottish Sun: “Royal organisers are super keen to secure Britain’s biggest girl band and the Spice Girls are seriously pondering a return to the stage as a five piece for such a historical event.
“Certainly the reality is that the Coronation is as special as The Olympics - a one off celebration and unique performance. There is a general sense that a reunion could happen for something this significant."
The band have met the royal family on multiple occasions throughout the years and the group was initially due to perform at the Queen's Platinum Jubilee ceremony but had to pull out.
Speaking last week on American talk show The View, Mel B revealed that there were talks for the band to come together once again. When asked about the possibility of a reunion, she said: "Oh there is.
"I'm always saying it's gonna happen', but because Covid happened, everything kind of got put on the backfoot. So all five of us are speaking, we're gonna announce something really soon, but I can't say anything right now."
Back in 2022, Mel C expressed regret after the group had to pull out of performing at the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Speaking to the Express, she explained that it would have been "impossible" to pull off.
“You know what, we would have loved to be there but it was just one of those situations where it was impossible. With us girls, there is so much that we would like to do but there are four, five, people involved with families and other commitments and responsibilities. So, I think that was something that we had to miss."
