Speeding fines issued on South Ayrshire roads as police clamp down on careless drivers

A spate of speeding fines have been issued on South Ayrshire roads as police clamp down on careless drivers.

A total of 17 fixed penalty notices were issued as officers took to the Carrick area following road safety concerns raised by local communities.

Local officers were joined by special constables from Police Scotland Volunteers this week.

Motorists in the region were observed with fines handed over two days, including to one driver for an MOT offence.

A total of 199 vehicles were stopped and checked for documents.

Officers have made road safety a key priority and have responded to complaints from residents over speeding.

Sergeant Ben Legge from Carrick locality policing team said: "Road Safety is a key priority for us and the communities of South Ayrshire have highlighted concerns in respect of speeding.

"We continue to focus on road safety and respond to these concerns by carrying out appropriate enforcement with the overall aim to reduce casualties across our road network.

"Speed is often a contributory factor in serious injury and fatal road traffic collisions.

"The specific operation referred to saw a number of fixed penalty tickets issued, however in contrast the vast majority of motorists were complying with the speed limit "
