Doctors at Children's Hospital Colorado say the children arriving in their emergency department after electric bike crashes are hurt worse than children who crash on pedal bikes, and one emergency physician says she now sees such a case during nearly every shift she works.
Between 2024 and 2025, the hospital's main campus in Aurora recorded a 184 percent increase in traumatic injuries from e-bikes and an 84 percent increase from e-scooters. Its Colorado Springs emergency room saw similar increases. The Aurora campus documented about 100 traumatic injuries from these devices across 2024 and 2025 combined, and has already treated more than 60 in 2026.
