Spanish weather warning issued for tourist hotspots including Mallorca, Benidorm and Ibiza over the Easter holiday

While the weather back in the UK looks just right for the Easter holiday weekend, there is a warning for British holidaymakers planning a trip to Spain. Several weather warnings have been issued by the Spanish national forecaster, AEMET , for heavy rain, storm-force winds and high waves.

Some of the areas included in the alerts include holiday hotspots popular with tourists like Alicante, Mallorca, Benidorm and Ibiza. Those holidaying in the affected regions are advised to take extra care and follow the advice of local authorities.

Status Yellow rain warnings are in place for Alicante and Valencia until Thursday. AEMET says up to 60mm of rain could fall within 12 hours in these areas. A separate Status Yellow Wind warning is in place for Alicante until Thursday, with the national forecaster warning of gusts of up to 70km/h.

Status Yellow Coastal warnings are also in place for Alicante (including Benidorm), Castellon, Valencia, Mallorca, Ibiza, Formentera and Murcia until Thursday. These areas can expect storm-force seven winds and waves of up to three metres.

Meanwhile, the weather in Wales looks good for the weekend. There is some rain around, but temperatures are set to be high. You can find out when the warm weather is predicted to end in Wales here.

Welsh forecaster Derek Brockway says: "A lot of dry weather. Some warm sunny spells. Mist and fog patches and not completely dry. A little rain or showers mainly on Sunday PM. Cooler and fresher on Monday. Could be worse!"

The Met Office forecast for Wales says: "The cloud will break up on Thursday afternoon, allowing spells of sunshine to develop for the late morning and afternoon. Warmer than Wednesday. Maximum temperature 17 °C. A largely fine evening, but cloud will gradually move in from the west. Some mist and fog may also return overnight, with some rain developing later in the west. Minimum temperature 7 °C.

"A grey start to Good Friday, with patchy light rain or drizzle, mainly in the west. Skies brightening towards lunchtime, with warm spells of sunshine developing, especially in the east. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

"Largely dry on Saturday and Easter Day, with the best of the sunshine in the east. Cooler on Easter Monday, with overnight rain clearing to sunshine and a few showers."
