Spain vs Argentina World Cup final: Bastian Schweinsteiger’s message takes fans back 16 years

With Spain and Argentina one victory away from lifting football’s biggest prize, Germany great Bastian Schweinsteiger has sent his wishes to both sides ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 final, while taking a nostalgic look back at where their World Cup journeys have taken them.

Spain and defending champions Argentina will meet at the New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday in a heavyweight showdown carrying very different possibilities for the two footballing giants.

For Spain, victory would bring the trophy back into their hands for the first time in 16 years. Argentina, meanwhile, are chasing consecutive World Cup crowns as Lionel Messi and his teammates attempt to successfully defend the title they won four years ago.

Schweinsteiger, who experienced some of the defining moments of his own international career during that era, connected Sunday’s title clash with the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

“From #SouthAfrica 2010 to the World Cup Final 2026. Good luck to both teams!” the former Germany midfielder wrote in a post on X.
