Southampton vs Chelsea prediction and odds: Raheem Sterling tipped to maintain goalscoring form

Chelsea will be looking to boost their morale further as they search for back-to-back wins when they travel down to face a Southampton side who are still trying to find their feet this season. After a shocking defeat at Elland Road against Leeds United, Thomas Tuchel's side done well to return to winning ways against Leicester City despite Conor Gallagher receiving a red card.

The Blues travel to St Mary's Stadium at 4/6 favourites with Betway while Southampton are 4/1 and a draw is 3/1. It is almost a second home to Tuchel's side with the London club picking up 11 wins, five draws and just one defeat at the Hampshire club in the Premier League - including a nine-match unbeaten run.

It seems to have taken longer than expected for life under Todd Boehly to start positively after a win at Goodison Park at the start of the season, the Blues dropped two points against Tottenham Hotspur then suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Leeds United before beating Leicester City at home. Thomas Tuchel returns to the touchline after serving a ban after his confrontation with Antonio Conte but discipline is clearly an issue too with Blues with back-to-back red cards for Kalidou Koulibaly and Gallagher.

Meanwhile, Southampton will be looking to return to winning ways after a hard-fought performance came to nothing against Manchester United at the weekend. Bruno Fernandes was the difference as Erik ten Hag's side continue a nice string of results but contribute to Saints' misery in defence.

Tips

Player to watch

I said it at the weekend that Raheem Sterling will click and he certainly delivered the goods for his new club in the second-half against Leicester. Two goals and some superb link-up play certainly shows he has settled in nicely to life in west London so there is every chance he will want to keep that going against a side with joint-third worst defence record in the Premier League already.

H2H

This will be the 110th meeting between the two sides with Chelsea picking up 48 wins, 32 draws and 29 defeats in that time against Southampton in all competitions. In the league this will be the 97th meeting with the Blues achieving 44 wins, 27 draws and 25 losses in that time against the Saints. The hosts have not won a home league game against Chelsea since March 2013.
