South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol answers a reporter's question

After lawmakers in Seoul unanimously voted to block the president's martial law decree, troops that had entered the main parliamentary building began to withdraw just past 1 a.m. local time. This decision was met with relief as local television stations showed troops leaving the building, with some forces still stationed within the National Assembly grounds.

The Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo reported that some troops had set down their gear while waiting. Citizens waiting outside the building expressed their joy upon hearing the news of the lawmakers' vote. Cheers of 'Long live the Republic of Korea!' and 'Yoon Suk-yeol, step down!' could be heard echoing in the vicinity.
