Canberra's closest house to The Lodge is up for sale with a $3.5 million price tag.
The current owner, who did not wish to be named, bought the property in 2011. He has used it as a family home and investment property at different times.
Being so close to one of Australia's most important houses had made for fascinating views, at times, out of the lounge room window.
"You always know when something is afoot. There might be 10 or 12 Commonwealth cars parked outside, late into the night," he said.
"If rumours were circling, sometimes you could try to work out if they were true."
He recalled when 20-odd American cars were flown over for Barack Obama's visits in 2011 and 2014.
And when Kevin Rudd's cars would roar down the street; "Julia was much quieter," he said.
But the biggest drawcard to the house, built in 1948, was its quiet and secure location. Despite being just off Adelaide Avenue, few cars venture down the circuit.
Frequent patrols by the Australian Federal Police made it perhaps one of the safest streets to live on in the capital.
"It always struck me as a good property because of its location and build," the owner said.
The three-bedroom, one-bathroom property is in near original condition, including internal wood finishes and floorboards.
Peter Walker of Ray White Canberra is selling the property alongside Kellie Chalker. He described the backyard as "perfect for hide and seek".
Mr Walker said the property's grounds were established by Andreas Helms, who was the assistant to Canberra's chief arborist in the 1940s.
The Helms family then lived in the house and raised children there.
According to CoreLogic, the house has only been sold once in its nearly 80 years, to the current owner in 2011 for $1.76 million.
It will be auctioned on November 16.
