'Some day' - Jonathan David breaks silence on Manchester United transfer rumours

Lille forward Jonathan David has broken his silence on a possible move to Manchester United after the Canada star admitted that "every player would want to play" in the Premier League when asked about a move to Old Trafford.

David's World Cup journey with Canada came to an end on Thursday as they lost 2-1 to Morocco, finishing bottom of Group F without a point to their name. Despite playing some exciting, fast-paced and attacking football, the side lost to Belgium, Croatia and eventual group winners Morocco in what will ultimately be a bitterly disappointing campaign.

The Ligue 1 striker was one of the stars that Canada had pinned their hopes on to help them get out of their group, yet the 22-year-old failed to find the net on all three occasions for his home nation. The lack of goals are by no means a true reflection in David's ability, and Erik ten Hag may well be secretly pleased that the forward failed to score should he be keen on bringing him to Old Trafford, as he avoids potentially having to pay an inflated transfer fee.

And now the rumours linking him with a move to Manchester have been put to David directly, who despite not claiming to know about them, could not help but reveal his admiration for the English game.

When asked about the transfer links with United, David said: “I am aware of nothing. When I am at the World Cup I am just focused on trying to enjoy the World Cup and enjoying the moment.

"What happens after I do not know, we will have to see. The Premier League is the best league in the world and I think every player would want to play there some day.”
