Sold out: Knights fans 'show up in a big way' for merch

Knights gear is getting hard for fans to get their hands on as grand final fever sweeps the city.

The official Newcastle Knights online merchandise store is out of stock and fans have lined up around the block at McDonald Jones Stadium as they looked to grab a piece of history and show their colours.

Knights fans were out in force on Tuesday morning in the hopes of getting their hands on a grand final shirt ahead of Sunday's big dance.

Queues for the Knights supporters store stretched around the corner as far as the trotting track car park by 9am.

Fans reported trying to snag a shirt online and finding their size had sold out while it was still in the cart for checkout.

Madi and Connor Hill made the trek into the store from Singleton with eight-week-old Lenny and their daughter Bindi after they were unable to secure their kit online.

"We missed out so we packed up the kids and drove the hour in and luckily we were able to get some," she said.

Ms Hill said she would likely be watching the game from home on the couch with the kids wrapped in their red and blue.

"The hubby will be working so he will be listening on the radio, but we will be on the couch yelling at the TV."

She said the grand final will be special for her because it reminded her of her family and their stories of the finals in 1997 and 2001.

"They are all die-hard Knights fans," she said.

"I was only three years old in 2001, but I remember my grandmother's excitement.

"Her and Pop aren't with us anymore. but it's nice to feel that connection and make our own new memories as well."

Also in the line was Kelly Helps, who was tasked by her son with picking up his 'Our Time' commemorative shirt, which he managed to snag when online sales went live.

She said she spent an hour and a half in line after she was sent back in to buy another.

"I got there around 9am and left at 10.30," she said.

"I lined up twice, once for the click and collect, then to head into the store for another shirt."

She said shelves were already getting bare.

"There were not a lot of sizes available already."

Ms Helps said her son who, is a massive Knights fan, would likely be watching the final at the pub after being unable to secure tickets to the big game.

She said the family was split, with her partner being a Roosters supporter.

"There is a bit of mucking about, a bit of a rivalry, but it's all a bit of fun."

Sales for grand finals tees opened at 9am online and were reportedly sold out in minutes, with fans asking for more to be made available ahead of the game.

Shortly after midday, the online store was closed with a message telling customers they were out of stock.

"You've shown up for the team in a big way, and our online Club Shop is temporarily out of stock," the message read.

Fans were advised to visit the merch store in person to see what stock was left.

"Online shopping is unavailable for now, but you can visit the Club Shop in store to see what's still available."

A restock of 'Our time' shirts will be exclusively available at the stadium store on Wednesday morning.
