Social welfare Ireland: Extra €12 a week confirmed 'on top of Budget lump sums'

Social welfare recipients are set to receive an extra €12 a week as part of a new payment to be signed off by the government.

The benefits giveaway confirmed by Government ministers will value at over €1 billion. The Social Welfare Bill will be formally brought to Cabinet for signing-off by Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys.

The measures announced as part of the Budget in September will come into effect as part of the Bill. Once green-lit by the ministers, the Bill will be voted in the Dáil and Seanad before the payments come into effect from January 1, the Irish Mirror reports.
