Soaring Crude Oil Prices Lift Sugar

October NY world sugar #11 (SBV26) is up +0.35 (+1.90%) today, and October London ICE white sugar #5 (SWV26) is up +4.30 (+0.80%).

Sugar prices are climbing today, with NY sugar posting a 1-week high and London sugar posting a 2.5-week high. Soaring crude oil prices are supporting sugar, as WTI crude (CLV26) is up more than +5% today at a 3.5-month high. Higher crude prices support ethanol prices and could prompt the world’s sugar mills to divert more cane crushing toward ethanol production rather than sugar, reducing sugar supplies.
