Snow hits Leeds as forecasters predict 12-hour Arctic blast on way

It has started snowing again in Leeds after the wintry weekend, with snow warnings in place from tomorrow.

Snowfall was first spotted in the city just after 7pm tonight (March 14). Since then it's been confirmed in at least Headingley, Cookridge and Moortown and is starting to settle.

This comes as the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning earlier in the day for snow in Yorkshire from 4pm on Wednesday to 4am Thursday. It's most likely to affect north west Yorkshire in the Dales.

The Met Office aren't currently forecasting the Leeds snow to last long - so it settling may be short-lived. It's currently predicted to be a cold night but with little chance of precipitation from 9pm.

It follows last week, which saw heavy snow across Leeds and indeed the country, that continued into the weekend. Leeds isn't very likely to see snow at the moment later in the week.

The Met Office says in its long range forecast: "There is likely to be a continued risk of snow in northern parts of the country, particularly across higher ground of Scotland, and perhaps some wintry showers for the far north. Temperatures overall will be near average to mild in the south, but near average to cold in the north."
