SNAP benefits are about to change. Here’s who will lose funds

  • Millions of low-income Americans will see an increase in federal SNAP benefits starting Thursday, according to the Department of Agriculture.
  • Most of the 42 million SNAP participants across 48 states and several US territories will receive an additional $8 to $52 per month, while recipients in Hawaii will see benefits drop due to lower calculated grocery costs.
  • The adjustments follow a period between June 2025 and June 2026 when around 5 million people lost SNAP access due to policy changes and new eligibility requirements under the Trump administration.
  • Recent research indicates that at least 776,000 children lost food assistance from these cuts, placing impacted individuals at a higher risk for chronic health issues.
  • The payment increase aims to provide relief to lower- and middle-income households struggling with high inflation rates on essential goods like groceries and utilities.
