Smithdown Road favourite to open city centre restaurant this week

A popular Liverpool restaurant is opening a new venue in the city centre.

The team behind Love Kimchi on Smithdown Road and Little Korea at the Baltic Market are launching a new site at GPO at the Metquarter. The new site will serve up Love Kimchi classics such as Korean Fried Chicken, Ramen and Crispy Dumplings.

The new site will open this week inside Liverpool’s biggest food hall, GPO, which launched at the Metquarter back in June 2021. The 11,000 square foot space pays homage to the building’s past as Liverpool’s General Post Office.

The site sits behind the Metquarter’s beautiful historic 19th century façade next to the Everyman Cinema, with open air seating facing onto the recently upgraded Victoria Street. The food hall includes a Grab & Go area where the GPO showcases local independent businesses from Liverpool. The quick-purchase station is ideal for lunchtime snacks and takeaway coffees.

The menu at Love Kimchi will feature crispy dumplings, spring rolls, Korean corn dogs, glazed yakitori and donburi rice bowls, along with Love Kimchi’s famous Katsu curry, fluffy bao buns and loaded fries. Each dish will be served with homemade real Korean sauces and Classic Kimchi using an authentic 70-year-old recipe. There will also be a full vegan menu.

Simon Duffy, who runs Love Kimchi with his wife Hyeonjeong Yoon, says they decided to open at GPO because they “love the ambience of GPO” and that the venue “has given us the freedom to really show how amazing Korean food is”.

Love Kimchi opened its doors on Smithdown Road back in November 2020, a year after opening Little Korea in the Baltic Market. The new site will open at GPO on Friday, April 15 and will be open from 12pm - 9pm everyday.
