With days full of sunshine, beach trips and holiday, summer is the season that many Brits look forward to the most - but the scorching weather is not without its drawbacks.
High temperatures can have a significant impact on our sleep, with hot summer days often leading to restless nights as we find ourselves too warm to drift off. However, an expert has explained that there could be an easy fix by avoiding a common mistake that many of us make during the hottest months of the year, The Mirror reports.
Nic Shacklock from Online-Bedrooms.co.uk explained: "We're not used to having to sleep in hot weather here in the UK. Our houses are super insulated and not many of us will have built-in air conditioning in our homes which means that when we do get warm weather, it can often be a struggle to sleep."

However, the expert said that there is one quick and easy remedy to keep the heat out of your home when it's scorching outside. While it may be second nature to open your curtains or blinds in the morning, keeping them shut to stop the sunlight beaming through your windows is likely to be far more beneficial when it comes to keeping your room cool.
Once the sun shines into a house, the raised temperature can persist long after the sun goes down and into the night, with British homes designed to keep heat trapped inside. It's for this reason that Nic advises people to keep their curtains and blinds closed when it's hot and sunny outside, particularly in their bedroom, to help them sleep better in the summer.
"There are also quick fixes you can do at night to help you cool while you sleep like putting ice in front of your fan or sleeping in cold socks," the expert suggested. As the UK endured a scorcher last summer, The Sleep Charity issued some other unconventional hacks to help you keep your cool at night.
Alongside well as putting your socks in the fridge or putting a bowl of ice in front of your fan, one of the tips was to dig out your hot water bottle and fill it with ice cold water instead. Pop it in your bed before you sleep to create a nice cold spot to nod off in.
It's also well worth making sure you stay hydrated - while it's one of the pieces of advice that you hear most when temperatures rise, it's all too easy to forget to drink enough water and doing so will help you stay cool as well as healthy. The Sleep Charity advised keeping a glass of water by your bed, as well as drinking plenty throughout the day, to give your body an extra boost at night and help you cool down.
