Sky Sports’ Jo Wilson, 37, diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer

Sky Sports presenter Jo Wilson has announced she has been diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer.

The 37-year-old host, who has been a firm fixture on the sports broadcaster since 2015, revealed she is undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment following her diagnosis this summer.

Mrs Wilson explained she had gone for a routine smear test in June, with the results detecting signs of cancer.

In July, further tests showed the broadcaster was battling 3b cervical cancer and it had already spread to two lymph nodes.

Recalling the moment she learned of her diagnosis, the TV star said she broke down in tears and then later on when she had to break the news to her husband Dan, who was left in shock.

She told OK! Magazine: "I cried while a lovely nurse held my hand. Then I cried to Dan, and he was quite shocked because he didn’t really think it would be cancer. You’re desperately hoping there’s a chance it might not be.

"I said to the doctor ‘Am I going to die?’. ‘You’re not going to die,’ he reassured me. ‘It’s very treatable, and it’s very curable’."

The presenter explained that she was due a smear while pregnant with her daughter Mabel in 2020 but following a traumatic forceps delivery, where they both caught sepsis, she delayed getting it done.

The Sky Sports star added that while there is a 70 per cent chance the treatment will work, she worries about the 30 per cent chance it might not.

The host, who has bravely gone public with her diagnosis during Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month, added she’s "hanging onto the positives" but has already lost a stone due to her treatment.

Mrs Wilson explained that she finds her it "terrifying" she could have put off her smear test even longer and urged women to book in for their smear.
