Six times Mohamed Salah sealed his identity as a Scouser

Mohamed Salah has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool Football Club, thrilling fans across the city and beyond.

Salah' s contract had been set to expire in the summer of 2023, however, he has now agreed a new three-year-deal to commit his future to the club until 2025.

The 30-year-old has scored 156 goals in 254 appearances since joining Liverpool from AS Roma in the summer of 2017.

And in that time, he's established himself as an honorary Scouser on many an occasion. From stunning fans in chippies, pubs and gyms, to dropping into Bakchich on Bold Street for his favourite dish, the Egyptian King's down to earth nature has won Liverpudlians over almost as much as his efforts on the pitch.

And who can forget the time he came to the aid of a young fan who was so excited to see him he ran into a lamppost?

Here we take a look at notable moments that saw Mo Salah's identity sealed as a Scouser.

Julie Clayton, 52, said she ran across The Dips in New Brighton chanting "Mo Salah, Salah!" after spotting the Reds striker in New Brighton (Jamal Clayton)

Lifelong Liverpool supporters and Hillsborough survivors Julie Clayton, and her mum Beryl, from Wallasey, were thrilled when they managed to grab a photo with Salah on The Dips in February 2018.

At the time, the snap of the mother-and-daughter beaming next to the Reds star raked in more than 9,000 likes on Twitter, with Beryl’s family saying she was “made up” to meet Salah. The same day, Salah was snapped in Panny's Place chippy on Breck Road and in a local gym.

Video taken behind the counter of Panny’s Place on Breck Road shows the Reds striker joking with chippy staff. It is believed he was filming part of an advert for Egyptian TV.

Mohamed Salah delighted punters when he made a visit to a Liverpool pub in May 2019. The Egyptian was spotted filming at Dovedale Towers on Penny Lane - just hours after playing for Liverpool in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona.

Salah appeared to be in high spirits as he demonstrated his acting skills, despite the previous night's 3-0 defeat to the Catalan side at Camp Nou.

When fans followed him through the city centre

In October last year, Salah was out and about in the city centre filming an advert for Pepsi. The LFC star could be seen running through the streets of Liverpool sporting a bright blue coat, with a crowd just behind him.

The filming also saw Exchange Flags transformed into an Italian setting complete with scooters and a yellow Fiat 500. There was also a pavement café set up, while the Egyptian player himself could be seen jogging up and down in a white fleece and black tracksuit bottoms.

Turning up at a young fan's house - after the boy sadly injured himself

A young Liverpool fan was so excited at spotting his idol Mo Salah that he knocked himself unconscious after running into a lamp-post while trying to keep up with his car. Eleven-year-old Louis Fowler and his 10-year-old brother Isaac were waiting outside Melwood training ground in August 2019 hoping to catch a glimpse of their heroes as they left.

When Salah's Bentley pulled out, Louis ran after the car in the hope of getting a wave. But in his excitement, he ran straight into a lamp-post and ended up unconscious on the ground. But no-one expected what happened next.

Mo turned his car around and drove back to the close where the boy's parents live to check the youngster was okay, and to pose for pictures with the star struck brothers.

Taking time out to 'learn Scouse'

In October 2019, Salah took time out from his busy life to learn "Scouse English". The Liverpool star shared a picture on Instagram which showed him apparently trying to get to grips with the local dialect.

In the picture, Mo could be seen in a black t-shirt, staring intently at his new Scouse English Glossary, created by local author Fred Fazakerley. Captioning the image, "There's definitely similarities" Mo gave thousands of fans a laugh by comparing Liverpool 's unique phrases to his own language, Egyptian Arabic.

Visiting Bakchich for his 'favourite'

After Mo Salah became a regular at Bakchich, the restaurant decided to offer free food every time the Egyptian king scored a goal for the Reds - and it soon ran out! The winger has been eating at Bakchich since he arrived in the city.

Bakchich owner Otto Mellouki said: “Mo Salah’s favourite food is hummus falafel. It’s healthy Arabic cuisine. Hummus and falafel are the fuel of every Egyptian, it’s part of the Arabic diet - especially in the morning and it’s healthy, tasty and doesn’t break the bank.”
