All good things come to an end, and it's very rare in this day and age that players remain at one club for the entirety of their career.
When a player feels as though it's time to move on, the dream scenario is that they can reach an amicable agreement with their current employers to honour their wishes. However, unfortunately this isn't always the case and it can all get a bit ugly.
And Robert Lewandowski is learning the hard way, as the Bayern Munich star that has been firing in the goals in Bavaria for almost ten years is seriously fracturing his relationship with his beloved supporters. It's clear that the Poland international wants to leave the club, with Barcelona his intended destination.
Bayern understandably don't want to let Lewandowski leave, as it's not an easy task to replace one of the best strikers in the world. But with Lewandowski desperate to get his way, he's putting his relationship with the fans and the club on the line with a series of statements.
In his latest interview with Polish outlet Onet Sport, he said: "I just want to leave Bayern. Loyalty and respect are more important than the work. The best thing to do is find a solution together. They didn't want to listen to me until the end. Something died inside me - and it's impossible to get over that. Even if you want to be professional, you can't make up for it."
It seems as though Lewandowski is willing to sacrifice everything to get his move, but he isn't the first player to put everything on the line to get their way. Here Mirror Football look at six other stars that have gone above and beyond to force moves.
Raheem Sterling
Raheem Sterling became a star for Liverpool after coming through their youth academy, and formed a fierce front-line with Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge. He was seen as the future at Liverpool, and was offered a huge contract to stay at the club by Brendan Rodgers.
Sterling was offered the deal in February 2015, but had no intention of signing a new contract - not that Liverpool new that at the time. To assist in forcing a summer move, Sterling have an unsanctioned interview with the BBC and revealed that he had rejected the offer, much to the annoyance of Rodgers.
After a fall out behind the scenes, Sterling's agent Aidy Ward then said: "I don't care about the PR of the club and the club situation... He is definitely not signing. He's not signing for even £900,000-a-week." After asking to be left out of Liverpool's pre-season training, the Reds finally accepted a £49m bid from Manchester City.
Sterling isn't the most popular of figures amongst the Liverpool fans, and at the time former stars Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness were critical of his behaviour. But the move has ended up working for both clubs, with silverware gracing them both.
Carlos Tevez
Carlos Tevez experienced a glamorous career, which even involved him being the highest paid player in the world at one point. But the Argentine was a nuisance throughout, upsetting both Manchester clubs along the way.
Tevez came into the Premier League in controversial circumstances, as he and Javier Mascherano arrived at West Ham in a bizarre transfer deal. Tevez only stayed at West Ham for one season, before joining United on a two-year loan deal.
United loved him, and Sir Alex Ferguson agreed a £22.5m deal to sign him, and was willing to make him one of their top earners. But in a brutal snub, Tevez rejected the approach and decided to join City instead.
Tevez started brightly at City, but then after two years the Argentine wanted to secure a move elsewhere, and refused to come off the bench as a substitute when his side were trailing 2-0 to Bayern Munich in the Champions League. After being suspended, Tevez later returned, but then upset fans again by joining in with West Ham celebrations as City travelled to Upton Park.
The Argentine justified his actions by claiming he had a great relationship with West Ham, but City later cut their losses and sold Tevez to Juventus in 2013. Tevez later joined Chinese side Shanghai and became the highest paid player in the world. He has since called it a 'holiday' as he refused to train, and made just 16 appearances in two years.
William Gallas
William Gallas isn't one to worry about upsetting fans, as he remains the only player to ever play for Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham in his career. The Frenchman joined Chelsea from Marseille in 2001, and after five years the club released a a statement accusing that Gallas was now refusing to play for them.
Following an apparent contract dispute, Chelsea claimed that Gallas no longer wanted to play for them, and if he started on the first day of the Premier League season, he would score 'own goals'. Gallas later dismissed these claims, but he got his move regardless.
Gallas joined Arsenal as Ashley Cole moved the other way, and then after more contract issues he decided to join Tottenham. After years of upset, Tottenham felt as though they had got revenge after the Gunners signed Sol Campbell in 2001.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's Arsenal exit was an ugly one, as the Gabonese forward began to cause unrest behind the scenes, and was banished by Mikel Arteta. After not making a single appearance in 2022, Aubameyang forced a move to Barcelona after flying out to Spain on Deadline Day.
But this can't have come as a surprise to Arsenal, as he joined them from Borussia Dortmund in controversial circumstances. Again, Aubameyang made it clear he wanted to leave in January 2018, and after a clash between him and former Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke, he called him a 'clown'.
Watzke said in a bitter interview after Aubameyang's exit: "Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is playing so well for Arsenal, probably gets a warm feeling in his heart when he is looking at his bank account but on Wednesdays he can only watch the Champions League and be sad.
And Aubameyang bit back, as he posted on Twitter : "Better for you I never talk about why I really left Dortmund Mr Watzke you such a clown. I remember that time you said we never gonna sell Ousmane (Dembele) then you saw more than 100m you were the first to take that money. Don’t talk about money please! Leave me alone."
Dimitar Berbatov
Dimitar Berbatov succeeded in forcing a move away from Tottenham after Daniel Levy finally gave in and sold the star on Deadline Day in 2008. Before the start of the 2008/09 season, newspapers reported that Ferguson expected to sign Berbatov, and it led Tottenham to filing a complaint to the Premier League about United.
But the reports did the trick, and Berbatov was reportedly uninterested on the training ground, and was dropped at the start of the season due to being 'unsettled'. Levy was almost forced to accept the £30.75m bid from United, and City also matched the offer in the final hours.
Levy claimed that Berbatov showed a lack of respect, but the Bulgarian wasn't fussed as he went on to win two Premier League titles at United. He later moved back to London, but this time to Fulham, and cruised to a player of the season award while at Craven Cottage.
Dimitri Payet
Dimitri Payet made a brilliant yet tarnished cameo for West Ham during an 18-month spell, as the Frenchman looked to be one of the bargain deals of the summer in 2015. West Ham spent just £10m to sign him from Marseille, even though Payet did not want to leave.
However, he burst onto the scene and settled in perfectly, but this didn't last long as he expressed his desire to return home the following January after Marseille were taken over by new owners. In January 2017, it was revealed that Payet had decided he did not wish to play for the club again, but the timing could not have been worse.
A mural of Payet had been installed that day, and West Ham had to guard it with security to stop it from being vandalised. West Ham then rejected two bids from Marseille as they didn't wish to let the star leave.
But eventually, after Payet was dropped from the first team, they accepted a £25m bid, and the day after he left the mural was removed from the London Stadium. Payet's legacy remains in tatters, but fans wonder what might have been if he didn't get homesick.
