A rider died, and others were injured Monday afternoon, Oct. 12, in an incident on the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia in Cobb County. Officials told WSB-TV that four other people were hurt, while Cobb County police said only that several people were injured. Witnesses told reporters they saw a man fall from the moving train, but police have not said how he died, and no cause has been determined. Georgia's state ride inspectors are now examining the 200-foot hypercoaster.
Six Flags has also temporarily closed nine similar coasters at six other parks, WSB-TV reported. They are Goliath at Six Flags Magic Mountain, Raging Bull at Six Flags Great America, Nitro at Six Flags Great Adventure, Leviathan and Behemoth at Canada's Wonderland, Fury 325 and Thunder Striker at Carowinds, and Orion and Diamondback at Kings Island. "Out of an abundance of caution, we have temporarily closed similar attractions across our parks," a company spokeswoman said. "The safety of our guests and team members remains one of our highest priorities."
