A dad at his seventh Glastonbury said it is his "luckiest" year yet after sharing a view of the sunset with Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney
Joseph Foley, better known as Joey, 62, from Bootle, made the trip down south to Worthy Farm with friends and family and had been enjoying the hot weather and “glorious sunshine” over the first four days of the festival. On Saturday evening, June 24, the life-long Liverpool fan was in The Park area of the site to watch English-American rock band The Pretenders.
Having covered around 18 km on foot during the day, Joey said he felt completely “wiped out” and so went towards the hill overlooking the stage area to relax. At the perimeter of the festival taking in the sunset, he said he then saw a jeep pull up nearby.

Seeing the vehicle at the highest point of the festival, Joey commented that the driver had “done well getting up there in the jeep," adding: “they must be Scouse." Joey’s prediction then came true when none other than Sir Paul McCartney stepped outside of the vehicle to take in the sights.
The former Beatle had been among the audience for The Pretenders who’d recently finished their set on the The Park Stage near by. Sir Paul made a brief cameo on stage following the performance.
Although flanked by security, Joey said Sir Paul allowed him to walk over and take a quick selfie. The seaman who works on Liverpool’s docks believes it was his accent that won him over.
Introducing himself to Sir Paul and noting he was from Bootle, Joey said the musical icon responded to ask “what part of Bootle?” as the two shared a brief conversation and the sunset. Before departing, Joey led a short rendition of Beatles song 'Let It Be'.
A huge fan of the Fab Four, Joey said the experience was “incomprehensible”, describing the legendary songwriter as “humble”. Following Liverpool FC all over the world, he added that he has been fortunate to meet many big names down the years, but this topped the lot.
He told the ECHO: "I’d never thought I’d be so overwhelmed. He is the best thing I have ever seen - Sir Paul, it doesn’t get any better . It was a unique moment.”
With one day of the festival remaining, Joey said he will be keeping his eyes peeled for Sir Elton John. The Rocket Man singer headlines the Pyramid stage tonight bringing 2023’s edition to a close.
