Sir Kenny Dalglish provides exciting verdict on new Liverpool signing Calvin Ramsay

New Liverpool signing Calvin Ramsay has received a ringing endorsement from fellow Scot and Anfield royalty Sir Kenny Dalglish.

And King Kenny was also satisfied to see a Scottish club benefiting financially from their development of the 18-year-old right-back after Aberdeen agreed a transfer deal with the Reds that could rise to £6.5million.

Liverpool confirmed on Sunday morning (June 19) that Ramsay had signed a contract that will keep him at Anfield for the next five years, providing valuable cover and competition for regular right-sided full-back Trent Aleaxander-Arnold. And Dalglish, who was one of three Scottish players signed by Bob Paisley in 1977/78, welcomed the arrival of his fellow countryman on Merseyside.

Speaking to the Sunday Post, Dalglish said: “Calvin Ramsay is the latest Scotsman to join Liverpool, and he arrives with a fine reputation as a player who can have a very good career. He broke into the Aberdeen side under Derek McInnes and quickly established himself as a first-team regular.

“Naturally, his form attracted attention from many clubs, and Anfield is now his destination. He’s had a good grounding at Pittodrie, and it’s good to see Scottish clubs being handsomely rewarded for rearing their own with a big transfer fee. It makes the time and money invested in their academies and scouting systems totally worthwhile.”

Ramsay, who will wear the number 22 jersey next season, will meet up with new teammate and Scotland team captain Andy Robertson when the pair report for the start of preseason training on July 4.

Liverpool's last signing from Aberdeen was goalkeeper John Ogston in 1965 for £10,000. Nicknamed 'Tubby', his only first team appearance was in a 3-1 victory against Newcastle United on April 7 in 1967.
