Sir Alex Ferguson has made it clear who he'd sign to complete Man Utd jigsaw

Former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson made a number of phenomenal transfers during his time in the Old Trafford hot-seat, so perhaps the current regime should take notice of his advice.

The current crop of Red Devils' talent are flying high, having just won the Carabao Cup and eliminated Barcelona from the Europa League in the space of four days. With that being said, if there is one area United could look to strengthen in the summer it is that of a striker.

Ferguson certainly seems to think so if his recent comments are anything to go by. While discussing Marcus Rashford's sensational goal-scoring form, the ex-United manager claimed the England ace should not have to shoulder the burden of putting the ball in the back of the net alone.

"I don't think he's a striker," the Scot told Sky Sports. "He operates away from the left-hand side and has been fantastic.

"His finishing is always good, always keeps his shots down – which is really important for a striker – and is in a great vein of form. Unfortunately for us, he's the main source of goals – we could do with an extra one, but he's doing it."

Wout Weghorst arrived in January on loan for the remainder of the season from Championship side Burnely and while he has impressed with some aspects of his game, his apparent inability to score on a regular basis means the Dutchman is unlikely to be a long-term option.

There isn't exactly a plethora of world-class striking talent that United will be able to take their pick from, but there is one player Ferguson has already confessed to admiring.

Tottenham's Harry Kane is someone the ex-United manager has admitted he would have liked to coached while he was still overseeing things at Old Trafford.

A one club man, Kane's current Spurs contract expires in the summer of 2024, meaning the very next transfer window provides Spurs with their last realistic chance of cashing in on their recently-crowned record goal-scorer.

The England skipper came close to leaving North London just shy of two years ago, but Manchester City and Spurs failed to reach an agreement over the transfer fee and as a result Kane stayed put.

Another option could be Napoli's Victor Osimhen, who now has 19 goals in his last 20 Serie A games.

While the Italian giants would expect a fee that could even surpass what Spurs want for Kane, the Nigerian's youth at just 24 years of age could make him a more attractive proposition.
