Singer Emeli Sande pays tribute to parents after MBE honour

Singer Emeli Sande paid tribute to her parents as she picked up an MBE at Buckingham Palace yesterday.

The Next To Me star, 30, who was brought up in Aberdeenshire, said dad Joel and mum Diane deserved to share the honour.

Speaking after receiving the gong from Prince Charles, she said: “Being here is so much to do with their sacrifices as well as mine so it was a great treat for all of us.”

Britain's first Eurovision winner Sandie Shaw was also honoured with an MBE (PA)

Fellow singer Sandie Shaw, 70, also received her MBE yesterday.

The Puppet on a String star, who was Britain’s first Eurovision winner in 1967, said she was “quite thrilled” about her honour.
