- An internal audit by Global Counsel, a lobbying firm founded by Lord Peter Mandelson, has revealed a "significant tranche" of his business emails is missing.
- The audit was conducted as the company went into liquidation and amid scrutiny over Mandelson's association with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, and a government announcement to publish his emails from his time as US ambassador.
- The firm stated it does not know how the emails went missing, and its electronic devices and emails are now with administrators.
- This revelation follows Lord Mandelson's recent arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office, accused of passing sensitive information to Epstein, for which he has been bailed until May.
- The European Commission has also requested an inquiry into Lord Mandelson's tenure as trade commissioner in Brussels, prompted by the release of the Epstein files.
