Sign installed at Scottish beauty spot urging visitors 'please do not use as toilet'

A SCOTTISH beauty spot on the NC500 route has had to install a new sign telling people to “not use this area as a toilet”.

Struie Hill is popular for its stunning views over the Dornoch Firth at a 285 metre ascent.

However, the NC500 has been plagued with issues over people using the countryside as a toilet for a number of years.

A post shared on the NC500: Dirty Truth Facebook page showed a sign had been installed by the Highland Council and its ranger service.

It reads: “Please do not use this area as a toilet. The nearest public toilets are in Alness (south) or in Argay (north).

“If you can’t make it, please ‘bag and bin’ all waste.”

The sign also has a QR code on it which takes people to a map of all the public toilets available in the Highland Council area.

A number of people commented on the post on Facebook, with one saying the sign was “sad but necessary” while another comment that “every lay-by could have a sign like this”.

A third added: “It’s ridiculous that this sign has to be there, hopefully dirty campers will not ignore this” while a fourth person said it was “sad it has come to this”.
