Should we pedestrianise more areas in Leeds? Have your say

In light of news that Bishopgate Street and Neville Street will be cut into one lane ahead of the proposed upcoming closure of City Square, we want to know if you think more zones in the city should be pedestrianised?

If so, tell us what areas you think could do with it and why - be sure to comment and have your say.

Cllr Helen Hayden, executive member for infrastructure and climate, said: "We hope that this acts as an opportunity for motorists to consider how they travel into the city and consider alternative modes of transport over the longer-term.”

There are some obvious benefits to making areas in Leeds pedestrianised, including environmental factors - getting rid of cars will certainly reduce air and noise pollution and many think we should do more to save the planet. So protecting spaces in the city centre isn't a bad place to start.

Many workers are often stuck in traffic driving through the City Square and are left frustrated especially as petrol prices continue to rocket.

On the other hand many Leeds folk who live and/or work in and around the city rely on their cars to get around, so would this be unfair and even exclude members of the public from getting around?

However, according to 'Commonplace' : 'The closure of City Square to general traffic, subject to final approval, will enable public transport, walking, cycling and public realm plans to be realised.'

'The scheme proposed will aim to reduce the volume of traffic in City Square, while maintaining access to key destinations via other appropriate routes. '
