Pune: State deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar said on Saturday that a Covaxin shortage has impacted vaccination drives for the 15-17 age group in Pune district.
Officials said Pune district is facing a shortage of at least 40,000 doses, but fresh supply is expected next week. Pawar said he will reach out to central authorities to ensure Covaxin supply to Pune is streamlined.
So far, 59% of teenagers in the district have been given their first Covaxin doses. The PMC has recorded 38% first-dose coverage, the PCMC has covered 48% and rural areas have seen 87% coverage. Pawar said the slow coverage of this age group in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad is a worry. He said, “A shortage of doses for the 15-17 age group stalled vaccinations on Saturday. We will not be able to carry out vaccinations on Sunday either.”
