Residents in Hillsborough County, Florida are facing a dire situation as flooding continues to worsen in the area. Sheriff Chad Chronister issued a strong warning to residents, urging them to evacuate immediately as flood levels are expected to rise throughout the day.

The flooding, caused by the overflowing Alafia River, has already submerged areas located a mile away from the river. Sheriff Chronister emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that the water levels are not receding and are only anticipated to increase further.

With the peak crest of the Alafia River predicted to reach 25.5 feet on Friday night, emergency responders are bracing for widespread impacts. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has deployed helicopters to assess the extent of the damages and to determine where the water levels are expected to crest.

Sheriff Chronister expressed deep concern for residents who may lose their homes to the flooding, particularly those who lack the resources to seek alternative accommodations. He highlighted the potential challenges faced by individuals without support networks or financial means to secure temporary housing.

The sheriff's emotional plea underscores the gravity of the situation and the need for swift action to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents in the affected areas. Authorities are working diligently to provide assistance and support to those impacted by the flooding crisis.
