Following significant injuries suffered by some residents who failed to evacuate, Los Angeles County's sheriff, Robert Luna, reassured residents not to worry about their homes if they leave. Sheriff Luna emphasized that deputies are actively assisting evacuating residents and issuing evacuation notices to ensure their safety. He also highlighted the importance of securing evacuated areas to prevent looting and theft.
Sheriff Luna expressed disappointment in having to report two arrests for looting that occurred that morning. He sternly warned potential looters that law enforcement is actively monitoring the situation and that anyone attempting to steal from evacuated areas will be apprehended.
