Sheridan Smith scolds Starstruck co-stars for being 'hard to please' as she gives standing ovations

Sheridan Smith hit out at her fellow judges for on Starstruck for their lack of support to the acts as she was left alone in giving a standing ovation to a group of singers in episode one.

After plenty of teaser adverts for weeks now, the much hyped new ITV talent show made its debut on Saturday, right after The Masked Singer final, won by Natalie Imbruglia as Panda.

The Stars in their Eyes reboot hosted by Harry Hill was widely panned by critics and viewers alike a few years ago, so the pressure was on for Starstruck to deliver on some top notch tribute act TV.

Sheridan and her co-stars Adam Lambert, Jason Manford and Beverley Knight and host Olly Murs, made quite an entrance to the studio for its launch as they gave a group performance of River Deep Mountain High, before any of the acts had a chance to impress.

The first episode saw members of the public transformed into an eclectic mix of music icons, from Freddie Mercury to Lady Gaga and Marvin Gaye to Ariana Grande.

And, it was after three female singers had transformed into Thank U Next diva Ariana, that Sheridan took exception to the behaviour of the other judges.

Just as she did after the three Freddie Mercury soundalikes performed, the No Return actress rose to her feet to give them a standing ovation, but none of the others did.

After all four judges gave their critiques to the Ariana wannabes, Sheridan got out of chair again, and could be heard saying: "I love them."

As she sat back down, she looked at the others and remarked: "They should just get rid of my chair because I just stand up all the time.

"I'm just excited, I want to give them a standing ovation. But you guys don't, you're quite hard to please."

Viewers were torn about Sheridan's enthusiasm on Starstruck, one tweeted: "I’m not huge Sheridan fan but she’s the best thing about this show," but another reacted: "Can’t Sheridan Smith sit still just for a few seconds ffs really irritating."

Others, having seen her in dramas Four Lives, The Teacher and No Return in recent weeks, couldn't believe she was on TV again, with one commenting: "Sheridan Smith is on TV more than the adverts."
