Sheridan Smith has revealed being a mum helped her film scenes for her latest role on the telly.
The actress, who welcomed son Billy in May 2020, said she was "crying throughout" the entire process of filming for ITV drama No Return, as she is now a parent and can relate to certain situations.
She is set to portray the role of mum Kathy on the show - finding herself trapped on the holiday from hell as her son is arrested.
Sheridan says she wept the entire time during the read-through of the series as her character fights to prove her son's innocence.
The famous actress told The Sun : "Playing roles before I had Billy to playing ones now I've had him, is totally different.
"People had said you can't understand the protectiveness and the overwhelming fear when you have a child and, he's not even two yet, but I feel it."
The four-part series - written by Shameless star Danny Brocklehurst - follows the story of Kathy's teenage son, 16, being arrested in Turkey after being accused of sexually assaulting another boy.
Kathy's son faces 12 years in prison, with Sheridan's character doing everything she can to prove his innocence.
She continued: "I've never been to a read-through like the one for this. It was so powerful. I mean, I cried all the way through.
"I read it and was gripped - I had to know what happened. It gave me that jelly belly feeling of, 'what would you do in that situation?'"
Sheridan made the headlines recently after she reportedly split from her boyfriend of four months.
The actress is said to have rekindled her romance from over 20 years ago with Alex Lawler.
She appeared to have wiped all snaps of her and Alex from her Instagram page, with friends claiming the star was the one to end the relationship.
A source claiming to be close to the award-winning actress says that the pair went their separate ways "a few weeks ago" and there was "no major drama" between the former couple, after realising their romance had run its course.
They claimed Sheridan is "single now and focusing on herself and her son".
*No Return will air on ITV early next month.
