NEW DELHI: Chitra Ravichandran was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital in Chennai, drifting in and out of consciousness, when she saw her son Ravichandran Ashwin by her bedside.

In her weak voice, filled with concern, she asked Ashwin, "What made you come?"
