Shashi Tharoor expresses concern on condition of minorities in Bangladesh

New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Friday expressed his concern over the current sitaution in Bangladesh and said Foreign Minister S Jaishankar must come to Parliament and address the issue.  

Mr Tharoor, who represents Thiruvananthapuram constituency, said that the committee on external affairs has called a meeting on the situation in Bangladesh on December 11. 

The committee is currently headed by Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor.

Tharoor Talks to Reporters

While talking to reporters outside Parliament, he said: "If the government has something to say on behalf of the Foreign Ministry, it would be good if (External Affairs Minister) S Jaishankar comes to Parliament and tells us. We have called a meeting of the External Affairs Committee on December 11 to know the details about Bangladesh. We are concerned about whatever is going on in Bangladesh. All the minorities should get democratic rights in their country." 


His statememt comes following the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das which has spread outrage in Bangladesh in Hindus, with many calling for his immediate release.

ISKCON

The ISKCON on Friday held a protest 'kirtan' at its Albert Road centre in Kolkata for the second consecutive day, seeking the release of jailed Hindu spiritual leader Chinmoy Krishna Das.

The ISKCON members also expressed concern over the condition of religious minorities in Bangladesh. (With Agency Inputs)
