The death of former Australian cricketer Shane Warne has shocked fans across the world. The 52-year-old suffered a suspected heart attack, his management company MPC Entertainment has said.
Acclaimed as the greatest leg-spinner of all time, he took 708 Test match wickets. He made more than 300 appearances for Australia across all forms of the games.
In a statement, his management company said: “It is with great sadness we advise that Shane Keith Warne passed away of a suspected heart attack in Koh Samui, Thailand today, Friday 4 March.
"Shane was found unresponsive in his Villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived.
“The family requests privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course.”
He was also famed for his off-field personality and became a familiar face on TV, becoming a team captain on BBC's A Question of Sport and appeared on Australian version of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!
Some of the famous quotes from Shane Warne
"To me, cricket is a simple game. Keep it simple and just go out and play"
"I have always tried to move on from disappointments as fast as I can"
"You can't afford to live your life with regrets"
"The public want to see people play an exciting brand of cricket"
"There are a lot more tabloids in England that like to report other things in your life, some of which are true and some of which are exaggerated and untrue. There have been stories where people claim to have seen me in one place and I wasnt even in that city then. The Aussie press is more judgmental and moralistic."
"The problem is there's still a big kid inside me who likes to have fun. I am passionate about my cricket and I love my family, but I'm also a kid and maybe I need to grow up... And maybe I don't"
"Sachin Tendulkar is, in my time, the best player without doubt - daylight second, Brian Lara third"
And some famous sledging encounters
Shane Warne and Darren Berry to Michael Slater
Warne, not shying away from sledging a fellow team mate during a state game, decided to get under Slater’s skin by suggesting that his temper was like a time-bomb.
When Slater came out to bat, Warne and Berry began the sledging:
Warne “Tick”
Berry “Tock”
Warne “Tick”
Berry “Tock”
After several overs, Slater got impatient and holed out to deep midwicket. As he trudged off, he glared at Warne and Berry, who said in unison “Kaboom!”
Daryll Cullinan to Shane Warne
Cullinan was well known as being a bit of a bunny to Warne's bowling.
The two hadn't played each other in some time so when Cullinan walked out to bat, Warne couldn't resist heckling him: "I've been waiting two years for another chance at you". Cullinan got him back with a ripper: "Looks like you spent it eating..."
