Shane Lowry sparked wild celebrations at TPC Sawgrass with a hole-in-one at the iconic 17th hole this evening.
The famous island green has caused havoc for players this week so far, with rough weather conditions ramping up the pressure and wind gusts causing multiple players to dump balls in the water.
Lowry, however, landed a pitching wedge over the flagstick, spinning it back into the hole for a delicious ace. The 34-year-old jumped for joy and threw his ball into the crowd as he lapped up the applause for what is the 10th ace in the history of the 17th hole at The Players Championship.
The eagle takes Lowry to -4 for the tournament midway through his third round (Lowry's group is playing the back nine first) and brings the Offaly man into contention.
Harold Varner III and Sam Burns currently lead the tournament at -8.
Rory McIlroy currently sits at +1 after four holes of his third round, while Seamus Power is at -2 through eight.
