Back in 2015, a 20-year-old SG Lewis saw Jessie Ware at the Brixton Academy. He was, at the time, just starting out in music. Blown away the energy of the crowd, he wrote on a piece of paper that if he were ever to headline a show there, he would consider that he had “made it”.
The pandemic derailed not one but two shows at the Academy. And after its license was suspended in December, it began to look like the gig would never happen. But this Friday it finally took place – well the closest thing to it – at the Hammersmith Apollo, which Lewis affectionately called Brixton’s sister venue. He rounded off the final leg of his European tour with infectious joy and enthusiasm.
