Shane welcomed Kim into the world with her with partner Dennis Cattrall. When Kim was three months old, her family emigrated from Liverpool to Canada and settled in Courtenay, British Columbia.
At 11, she returned to Liverpool when her grandmother became sick. Kim was featured on Who Do You Think You Are along with her sisters in 2020.
The episode focused on the centre of her family's story as Shane's dad, George Baugh, walked out on his wife and three daughters when she was just eight. Shane spoke of how she remembered her dad trying to persuade her to leave with him.
Kim’s grandmother had to sell everything to keep going after George left. According to the family there was no furniture, they drank from jam jars and the three girls shared a bed.
The sisters don’t even possess a picture of their dad, beyond one where he can just be glimpsed peering from behind a curtain.
Kim's fans left hundreds of comments of support for her under her Instagram post.
