Let’s be honest: And Just Like That… just wasn’t the same without resident bombshell Samantha Jones.
Fortunately, she’s coming back for the new season.
Yes, you read that right. Sex and the City’s most infamous feel-good dater is heading back to our screens, according to And Just Like That…’s showrunner Michael Patrick King.
Speaking to Variety, he explained that the show’s new season (which will be coming out on HBO Max) will include a storyline featuring Kim Cattrall’s character.
Samantha was noticeably absent from the show’s first season, appearing via text message with main character Carrie.
But when asked if she would feature in season two, King responded: “Yes!”
However, he was less forthcoming on the details, explaining: "It’s all so new right now. One of my big rules is don’t tell things until they’re real."
"My goal is to bring all the characters into the mix together, so that they’re not so much on separate runways."
HBO announced in March that it would be renewing the Sex and the City spinoff show, despite a string of controversies attached to the filming and release of the first season.
Though Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis were all set to reprise their characters of Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte (and will be doing the same in season two), Cattrall refused to return to the franchise.
In 2017, she stated that she had “never been friends” with her cast mates, and called out Parker for being unsupportive – an incident she later told Piers Morgan was her taking them “to task.”
"I think she could’ve been nicer,” Cattrall added. “I really think she could’ve been nicer. I don’t know what her issue is."
Despite that, Parker has told The Hollywood Reporter that she didn’t consider their fallout a “catfight”.
"I’ve been so careful about not ever wanting to say anything that is unpleasant,” she said, adding: “It’s so painful for people to keep talking about this ‘catfight’ — a fight, a fight, a fight. I’ve never uttered fighting words in my life about anybody that I’ve worked with ever.
“There is not a ‘fight’ going on. There has been no public dispute or spat or conversations or allegations made by me or anybody on my behalf. I wouldn’t do it. That is not the way I would have it."
Season two of And Just Like That… is currently slated for a summer 2023 release.
