LUCKNOW: A day after two sanitation workers died while cleaning a sewer in Saadatganj area, the Lucknow police is yet to take action against the company which had hired them on contractual basis and the supervisor, who forced them to step in the sewer to clean it.
Talking to TOI here on Wednesday, assistant commissioner of police, Bazarkhala, Anil Kumar Yadav said that a notice has been served on the firm that had hired the workers. “We would first first take statements of family members of the deceased and then question the accused named in the FIR,” he said. It may be noted that in a similar case reported from Rae Bareli on Tuesday police had already arrested one accused.
The ACP said that the accused, identified as Amit Singh, against whom the FIR was lodged, was admitted to Trauma Centre by the police.
Meanwhile, deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak along with minister of state for urban development Rakesh Rathore visited the grieving family to offer their condolences. SP MLA from Lucknow West, Arman Khan, too, visited the Kala Patthar crematorium and expressed grief over the death of the sanitation workers. He also attended the funeral of both the workers and provided financial aid to their family members.
The Lucknow Municipal Corporation.(LMC) has given financial aid of Rs 20 lakh each to the family members of the deceased. The funds were transferred directly to their accounts.
The last rites of a sanitation worker were performed in Rajajipuram area on Wednesday.
Shopkeepers of the area had closed their shops to pay homage to the deceased. Mahesh aka Maiku, father of the deceased Karan, performed the last rites.
