Severe weather triggers flooding, power outages and road closures across Portugal

Rising waters along the Tagus River have forced local authorities to close riverside roads and pedestrian paths in Vila Franca de Xira, Portugal.

Officials said the area remains on high alert due to a combination of high tides, heavy rainfall and upstream dam releases from Spain affecting low-lying zones.

Civil Protection authorities warned residents against parking near the river.

More than 115,000 customers were still without power on Tuesday, following damage caused by storm Kristin to the electricity grid.

Severe weather heavily impacted the industrial park of Marinha Grande, leaving several buildings without roofs or walls and forcing a suspension of activity, with businesses reporting significant losses still being assessed

Storm front Kristin has swept across the Iberian Peninsula, leading to at least six deaths in Portugal.

Authorities warned that another storm, named Leonardo, is expected to affect Portugal and Spain in the coming days, raising concerns of further flooding and damage.
