  • Serving Police Scotland officer Carmichael John Williamson, 32, has been convicted of three charges of rape at the High Court in Edinburgh following offences committed off-duty in the Shetland area.
  • Williamson was found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with and raping a girl under the age of 16 between 2014 and 2015, during his time serving as a special constable.
  • He was also convicted of raping a woman in 2020 and again in 2022, when the victim was unable to give consent due to intoxication, whilst working as a full police officer.
  • Following initial reports made in December 2023, Williamson was arrested and suspended from duty in January 2024, and he has now been remanded in custody ahead of sentencing on 8 December.
  • Detective Superintendent Stevie Bertram praised the victims for their strength in reporting the crimes and reaffirmed Police Scotland's commitment to investigating officers accused of criminality.
