Serving Met Police officer charged with raping man in north London

A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been remanded in custody charged with raping a man in north London.

Off-duty PC Andrej Sagaidak - still working in his probation period in a south east policing team - was arrested after the alleged offence at a home in Islington on Monday.

Sagaidak appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday accused of two counts of rape, non-fatal strangulation and causing actual bodily harm.

He will remain on remand before reappearing at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, February 2.

Detective Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry, responsible for policing in Bexley, Greenwich and Lewisham, said: “This is a deeply concerning allegation and I know it will cause significant concern.

“We took immediate action when we received the report and the officer was suspended from duty following his arrest on Thursday.”

Scotland Yard said: “An investigation was launched after we received a report that a man had been raped by another man.

“We continue to provide support to the victim and the investigation is ongoing.”

A mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
